Spring Meadow Farms, Upperco, MD
Cathy Fink
and Marcy Marxer (www.cathymarcy.com)
have been making music together since 1984, combining two careers of
performing, teaching and recording for children and adults. They are
consummate musicians on guitar, five-string banjo, mandolin, hammered
dulcimer, steel drums and a long list of instruments. Their superb
harmony singing punctuates an expansive repertoire. And with over
10,000 performances behind them, they have something for everyone.
Join The Jezic Ensemble for a fun day at Spring Meadow Farms—an open
air stage, farm zoo, ice cream, basket raffle, crabs, pit beef and
more! Bring a blanket and some friends and enjoy a Sunday spring
afternoon.

Celebrating
Women Composers:
Diane Peacock Jezic Memorial Concert
LeClerc
Hall, College of Notre Dame of MD,
Baltimore, MD
This is the concert we become The Jezic
Ensemble. A concert of choral literature for women’s voices,
composed exclusively by women, honors the life of Diane Peacock
Jezic. Colleagues, students, and friends gather in memory of Ms.
Jezic and in anticipation of the birth of The Jezic Ensemble.
Featured compositions include works by
Libby Larsen,
Ysaye Barnwell,
Lili Boulanger and
Joan Szymko. It is the vision of The Jezic
Ensemble to honor Ms. Jezic’s work by making the tradition of
women composers accessible to mainstream audiences through
performance and educational outreach and to be a living memorial to
a unique woman whose life’s work supplied the resources and vision
from which we draw our identity and create our own history as The
Jezic Ensemble.

Swingin'
On Sunday with
The McCuskers & Friends
McDaniel College, Westminster, MD
Fortunate
to have had what they call a “built in” rhythm section growing
up, Maureen and Phil McCusker come from a very musical family in
which they, their father and two brothers all play. Maureen, a
dynamite vocalist, flutist, and saxophonist studied and played at
Towson University in Hank Levy’s jazz ensemble and traveled with
the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble to Copenhagen in 1985 as a musical
ambassador for the city of Baltimore. She primarily plays with Phil,
a versatile guitarist, composer, and bandleader steeped in the jazz
tradition who has played jazz-fusion with East Coast Offering and
R&B with Barely White. This charming duo plays virtually every
tune in every key with tremendous improvisational skill and finds
great joy in sharing melodies that all generations hold within their
memories, songs like Summertime, My Funny Valentine, and I Got
Rhythm, acclaimed for their endurance and celebrated for their
beauty.

Spirit of
the Andes with Andes Manta
Church of the Redeemer, Baltimore, MD
Experience the beauty and
spirit of the Ecuadorian Andes with South American folk artists Andes
Manta, four brothers who passionately preserve one of the few
prehistoric culture forms to survive five hundred years of European
occupation of South America. Women’s voices combined with the brothers’
mastery of 35 traditional instruments will offer vibrant melodies,
exultant dance rhythms and authentic sounds of the Amazon rain forest
that only llama toenail rattles, four-foot long flutes, and six-foot
long panpipes could create. The music of Andes Manta is a joyous
celebration of daily life. The women of the Chestnut Ridge Women’s Choir
hope you will be drawn as they have to the energy and sensuality of
Latin American music and that in being drawn you will cherish a lost
tradition found in song.
