Voices of the Earth
Music for Choir and Ensemble by
Eugene Friesen

Sabbaths
by Wendell Berry
featuring Trio Globo
Eugene Friesen, cello
Howard Levy, harmonica
Glen Velez, percussion

Voices of the Earth is a collection of choral compositions sharing a common insight: nature is our solace, inspiration, and responsibility. From Wendell Berry’s classic masterpiece “Sabbaths” come four settings for choir and cellos giving voice to Berry’s profound connection with land, self and spirit. The music is melodic and earnest, with echoes of early America as is Berry’s almost biblical language and viewpoint. Earth Requiem is a prayer for planetary rest (requiem) and praise for the beauty, freshness and diversity of all life.
